A Town Steeped in Legacy

Bickfaya consists initially of two words, “Bet” and “kifa”, what means the “stone house” or the “house of rock”. The modern story of Bickfaya begins in the 16th century with the arrival of the Gemayel family, whose influence would later extend to the highest levels of Lebanese leadership. This legacy includes figures like President Bachir Gemayel and President Amine Gemayel, both of whom played defining roles in Lebanon’s political history. Today, under the leadership of Mayor Nicole Gemayel and a dynamic 15-member municipal council, the municipality is pursuing major projects in infrastructure, sustainability, and digital transformation.

Cradle of Creativity and Talent

Mhaydseh, meaning “the little new village”, a serene village, nestled in the Metn mountains near Bickfaya and offers a peaceful escape surrounded by pine forests and natural beauty. Known for its fresh air and scenic walking paths.

Mhaydsseh is the birthplace of Elia Abu Madi, one of the most celebrated poets of the Arab diaspora. Abu Madi’s poetry reflects the philosophical depth and emotional sensitivity rooted in his Lebanese upbringing.

Bickfaya also takes pride in Walid Akl, the internationally acclaimed concert pianist known for his masterful interpretations of classical and Lebanese compositions. Akl’s musical achievements have brought the name of Bickfaya to stages across the world, from Europe to the Americas.

Beyond these two icons, the region has long been a sanctuary for artists, thinkers, and musicians whose creative work was inspired by the cultural and natural landscapes of Mount Lebanon.
